One less worry

0644/11th February 2025

.

This morning I wasted an hour searching the headlines in vain for good news.

There was none to be found, so tuning in soothing music, I settled for happiness found elsewhere.

.

It is no small thing to learn that an ailing cat is cured, especially when she’s very elderly and frail .

Early yesterday we whisked Muffin back to the vet where she was able to provide a specimen within minutes so that she did not have to spend the day – always good news.

Today I got a call to say that the infection has cleared.

One less thing to worry about.

.

While Muffin performed, I waited outside.

.

A grey sky had a muting effect on the snowy landscape, so glorious the day before.

.

The focus is poor, but I remembered to photograph another set of bent icicles.

.

Ours were straight and dripping.

.

A new challenge: catch the drips.

.

Not so hard with modern technology.

.

Just before sunset, the clouds broke.

.

Not long after, the Moon appeared in the darkening backdrop.

.

A brighter day woke me early this morning and immediately I worried that it had not been Muffin’s wake-up call that stirred me.

She is always first up, clamouring for breakfast.

So I charged out of bed to find her and seeing that she was just fine, I turned to the window.

.

A pretty sight, with or without icicles and one that changed with every moment.

.

The day dawned clear but very cold at 9F/-13C.

.

Alternate view and reflection.

.

Some sort of technical issue has made progress very slow today with intermittent profanity.

So I’ll quit while I still can….

  1. That looks really wintry! I don’t want to jinx myself, but we have had no snow or ice here this winter so far. Today got up to 5C but felt very cold in winds from the east. The constant gloom and drizzle is beginning to get us both down, (house lights on still at 11am) and we are yearning for some sun and brightness.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. Happiness is definitely your beautiful sunrise! And another happiness is that Muffin is doing well! Beautiful photos of “catch the drips”. Your winter looks colder to me this year than previous years (or maybe I just forgot what last year’s winter looked like)?

    1. Yes this winter has been much colder but it’s also been bizarre with temperatures so up and down and a few inches of snow every few days rather than a large snowfall but much less often.
