Venturing out in this sort of weather wasn’t the best idea, but Muffin had an appointment at the vet.
Truthfully, she’d been expected on Tuesday morning, but I’d failed to note the swapping of dates when she came down with a urinary tract infection .

Mea culpa. Luckily it was only a drop-off, so we hadn’t deprived another pet of a time slot.
Still, we felt we should get our girl down there for the test and it’s only an 8-minute drive.

Most people had enough sense to stay home, so the roads were empty and easy to navigate.

The only problem was that the road surface was extremely slippery as snow turned to sleet and ice.
.
But we were fine and I have to admit that I enjoy being abroad in a snow storm!

Grant was at the wheel and maybe he wasn’t quite as thrilled.
Perhaps he’s got more sense:)

The world looks entirely different in a snowstorm.

Largely black and white, but where colour appears it seems particularly bright, vibrant.

Only a handful of people were about in the village.

The trouble was…

…conditions were deteriorating and we would have to come back out to collect Muffin.
.
Before long, I got a call to say that Muffin had not been able to provide a specimen, but that the clinic would close early because of the storm.

There was a convenient lull as we went back out.

Past the antique store and the *re-named bank.
(*We were informed after the merger).

With a quick dive into the Post Office….

…and once more along route 22.

Coming back, I persuaded Grant to take our usual, faster, though un-ploughed route.

Not a problem at all.

It would have been sensible to simply postpone Muffin’s test and I feel bad that she will now have to do another trip on Monday.
But I did enjoy a short sortie in the snow.
I always used to go out for a drive when the first snow arrived to reacquaint myself with snow-driving techniques. I’d find a large open space to practice skidding and recovery. Great fun, and I thought it was a sensible thing to do! The only place I ever used snow chains was in Cyprus!!!
I think this is the first time I have seen your local roads looking so icy and snowy. They usually seem to have been expertly cleared, but these photos make them look rather dangerous.

It began snowing not long before we went out and came down fast. Usually the roads get salted or ploughed quickly.
Oh, that looks like tough conditions to drive in – I can’t really see a road in your last few pics … and you guys drove there 😯? Well I’m glad everything went well (for you and Grant). And I hope all will be well with Muffin’s visit to the vet on Monday.
