The old Clifton Park Hotel.
It straddled the Clifton Park-Halfmoon town line, so depending which community was “dry” at the time, the bar shifted from one side of the building to the other.
Two other small buildings stand adjacent.

Where the hotel sits, there is now a busy intersection and it looks so small and lost.
We saw recently that the buildings are condemned, but on Wednesday there was a sign on the hotel building advertising retail space.
The location is unfortunate, but I hope this little bit of history can be preserved.

On the way home that day we stopped by the Hudson and Grant gathered up a bag of acorns.
He is trying to grown some but he threw a few out for the squirrels. Although there are no oaks nearby, they appeared to recognize immediately what they were!
This squirrel scurried off and buried its prize in the grass.
I suggested that Grant should just let the squirrels plant the rest and see what comes up.

A pert, pretty bird, the titmouse.

As is the Carolina wren.
It rarely comes to the patio so this was a treat.

We had other pretty visitors recently.
They had not been before.

A purple finch and his wife.
New visitors always a delight!

The purple finches stayed around for a few days and brought friends. They may have been migrating, or perhaps just scoping out our feeders.
Apparently they don’t all migrate.
With temperatures warming so much, why would they?

Encouraged by mild temperatures, Zoomer popped out for a snack.
And a drink.

The groundhogs may have gone to hibernate but the demand for food has not diminished.
Possums visit nightly.

Skunks too, though this one came in daylight.

The squirrels in my back garden take bread that I put out for the birds. They seem to prefer it to the hundreds of acorns that have fallen from our two oak trees. Perhaps they get fed up with acorns all the time?

Did you hear about the raiding of the house in New York where the authorities took the rescue animals and killed them? Talk about government over reach! As to the church sign regarding Jesus. He is a stumbling block to those who are on the wide road, which by the way leads to destruction. To those on the narrow road which leads to life, He is an inspiration.
Yes, I heard that sad story. People shouldn’t keep wild animals (it is against the law), but if for some reason they do, they certainly should not advertise it all over YouTube because there is only one way it will end. It breaks my heart. I got the meaning of the church sign, it just seemed an odd message.
It’s great to see all your visitors. I was wondering what Grant wanted to do with the acorns … well, I think he’s going to have squirrels as his best buddies soon! I love the titmouse. Have you kept record of all the animals that have visited you since you’ve been there? It could be a book full of names by now.
